Rather than clear-cutting the site, 1.3 acres of natural forest was preserved by clustering the buildings and by clearing only 10 feet around building perimeters. Shrub and underbrush were left intact in order to retain habitat and encourage wildlife. Forty percent of the total land was also set aside for vegetated open space. These measures not only helped maintain wildlife habitat, they increased the value and marketability of the property and helped minimized landscaping needs resulting in significant cost-savings.
